Labor believes that a good government thinks about more than just the next election. We understand the importance of protecting Australia from future risks and ensuring our nation is prepared to face the challenges of the 21st century. ENVIRONMENT Labor will act urgently and decisively on climate change to protect Australia’s future. We will ratify the Kyoto Protocol, establish binding carbon emissions targets, invest in renewable technologies and increase the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target. We will also provide grants and loans for householders to convert to renewable energy and rainwater. EDUCATION Labor values education. Labor will invest in an education revolution, ensuring our kids reach their full potential with new literacy and numeracy programs. We will give all Australian four year olds the right to early childhood education, and build new child care centres. BROADBAND Labor will invest in the drivers of productivity, such as a national broadband network. We will invest in partnership with the private sector to develop a broadband network that connects 98% of Australians to high speed internet.
